Woman, 37, Sentenced to 4 Years After Smashing 6-Month-Old Daughter’s Skull

A 37-year-old Northampton woman has been sentenced to four years in jail after she smashed her six-month-old daughter’s skull and sent pictures of the injury to her partner, supposedly to get his attention, local police have said.

Medical examiners revealed that the injuries to the baby’s skull equaled those found in car accidents or from falling from a first-floor window, according to a report from the Northamptonshire Police.

Upon receiving the horrendous photos of his baby girl by text, the father immediately alerted local police. Kim Frost, the mother, was arrested shortly thereafter. The incident occurred on Feb. 4, 2018.

Frost pleading guilty to category A child cruelty and neglect at Northampton Crown Court in the United Kingdom on June 21.

Judge Michael Fowler told Frost: “It’s clear to me the most severe injury, the principal focus of our proceedings—the injury to the child’s skull—was caused by significant force,” according to the police report.

“It’s also clear that you showed deliberate disregard for the child’s welfare in order to seek and gain attention of the man you were in a relationship with at the time.

“In mitigation, this was clearly a dysfunctional, toxic relationship, but I’m satisfied you were fully aware of what you were doing, and the fact that you were not behaving rationally and that you’ve been described in a psychiatric report as having borderline personality disorder does not absolve you.”

After police intervened, the baby girl was rushed to hospital, according to Daily Mail. Doctors found several skull fractures and a partially swollen brain.

Northamptonshire Police’s detective Constable Kirstie Brooks from the child protection team said: “This has been an extremely difficult case. The evidence has been particularly harrowing, depicting such severe injuries inflicted on a very young, vulnerable person at the hands of an adult.”

The child has since been placed in the custody of a foster family and has been making a remarkable recovery, according to Daily Mail.

“The child is now 23 months old and, thankfully, appears to have made a full recovery, but such was the severity of the injuries, the outcome could have been very different,” Brooks said, according to the police report.

“I am pleased the child was removed from what was a highly dangerous situation, was safeguarded, and since then, has not shown signs of long-term harm.

“I am happy with the result and what I believe is a fair sentence. While in custody, I hope Frost reflects on the gravity of what she has done.”

Iowa Mom Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Starving Baby to Death

In another saddening case of child abuse, a 25-year-old Iowa woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison last week after her malnourished son died after weighing less than his birth weight.

Angel Poole, of Birmingham, Iowa, was sentenced on Jan. 25 after pleading guilty to child endangerment resulting in serious injury, reported KCCI.

Prosecutors lowered the charge in exchange for her plea.

Officials said that paramedics were sent to Poole’s apartment in July 2016 after she called 911 to say her son, Judah Wessels, was having difficulty breathing.

The boy was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital about an hour later, KCCI reported.

Judah, who was two months old, weighed about 5 pounds at the time of death, and an autopsy showed he died of starvation and dehydration.

KTVO reported that the child weighed 7 pounds and was healthy when he was delivered in May 2016.

She was originally charged with a Class B felony, which carries a 25-year prison sentence, but ultimately, she received a Class C felony, which has a 10-year prison term, KTVO reported.

The autopsy showed the child was “markedly malnourished,” the Daily Mail reported.
