When it comes to the ritual act of dating, participants often have very different expectations. Some hope to meet their soul mate. Others seek companionship. Some are looking for a good time…and think that springing for a meal entitles them to one. And now a new study finds that some women say that, now and again, they just want to score some lobster tails. The finding is in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science. [Brian Collisson, Jennifer L. Howell, Trista Harig: Foodie Calls: When Women Date Men for a Free Meal (Rather Than a Relationship)] “You’re probably wondering how we came up with this idea.” Brian Collisson, a social…

Foodie Calls Are A Thing Now
A new study has found that one-third of women will go on a date just for the food There’s been a new study on foodie calls. And no, we’re not talking about calling Pizza Hut to order a capricciosa. It’s when you go on a date only for the free meal. It may sound odd, but according to a new study, one in three women do exactly that. The study was conducted by Azusa Pacific University, and found that out of 1177 women, two-thirds said they had never been on a foodie call. However, one-third admitted to going on a date only for the free meal, despite having no interest…

‘Foodie calls’ are on the rise in the US
Move over, booty call — the “foodie call” is becoming dating’s next phenomenon. As many as a third of women admitted to going on a date just for the sake of a free meal, an alarming new trend on the rise, according to a new study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science. Two groups of women were broken into separate studies, where they were asked about their personality traits, gender role beliefs, and if they’ve ever participated in foodie calls. Twenty-three percent of the first group (820 women) admitted to engaging in foodie call behavior, with some believing it was more acceptable. Most women from the first study deemed…

Inside the complicated sexual politics of the “foodie call”
Up to 33 percent of women say they’ve foodie called—that is, gone on a date for a free meal—according to a recent study. Are those numbers illuminating—or do they obscure the nuances of dating? Halfway through the first season of Netflix show Master of None, the main character Dev realizes he’s getting foodie-called. He and his date Caroline are in the middle of their meal at Dirty French, an expensive restaurant in New York’s Lower East Side. He’s in a suit. She’s in a hoodie and New Balances. He tries to make conversation. She’s on her phone. At the end of the night, leftovers of sea bass, short rib,…

Study Says About 1/3 Of Women Have Engaged In A ‘Foodie Call’
(WWJ) Some women going on dates are not looking for romance, but for a free meal. It’s called a “Foodie Call.” About a third of women in an online survey say they’ve engaged in a foodie call. Researchers say those women also tended to score higher when it comes to certain personality traits like narcissim. “When one looks at the kind of person that would do this, one would see an extremely pathologic, narcissistic type of person,” Dr. Howard Belkin, a psychiatrist in Birmingham, told WWJ’s Dr. Deanna Lites. “It’s someone who is using another person for the purpose of their own gratification.” Belkin says it’s hard to detect these types of…

Washington, DC – When it comes to getting a date, there’s any number of ways people can present themselves and their interests. One of the newer phenomena is a “foodie call” where a person sets up a date with someone they are not romantically interested in, for the purpose of getting a free meal. New research finds that 23 – 33% of women in an online study say they’ve engaged in a “foodie call.” Upon further analysis, the social and personality psychology researchers found that women who scored high on the “dark triad” of personality traits (i.e., psychopathy, Machiavellianism, narcissism), as well as expressed traditional gender role beliefs, were most…
