Baby boomers more sensitive than millennials: study
Who’s the real snowflake? It’s not millennials, according to a new study. The survey of 750 people between 13 and 77, published Dec. 10 in the journal Psychology and Aging, shows that contrary to popular belief, baby boomers tend to be the most hypersensitive and narcissistic generation. “There’s a narrative in our culture that generations are getting more and more narcissistic, but no one has ever looked at it throughout generations or how it varies with age at the same time,” William Chopik, associate professor of psychology at MSU and lead author of the study told Science Daily. “One of the most surprising findings was that — also contrary to…

Julie Delpy’s Uneven Sci-fi Melodrama – Variety
There are two films in Julie Delpy’s ambitious, sharply-made but unbalanced “My Zoe.” There’s the scabrous relationship melodrama, about bitter exes sharing custody of a beloved child, which contains the story’s most potent emotions. And there’s the sci-fi-inflected ethical-dilemma grief movie, which houses its most provocative ideas. Both have much to recommend them, not least Delpy’s lithe filmmaking, polished over her now seven features to a consummate, unobtrusive sheen. But the transition between the two halves or, more appropriately, the cloning of the second from a tissue sample of the first, plays awkwardly, and suggests that Delpy’s screenwriting, while studded with moments of shrewd insight, as yet lags some way…

10 Movie Characters Who Accurately Portray Mental Illness
Cinema in general has had a dubious history with portraying mental health in an authentic or even sensitive light. The perceived dramatic nature of a mental illness has notoriously meant it’s too often conveyed as a means to broadcast sentimentality or sensationalism. When it isn’t either of those, its “madness” is the perfect fuel for horror films by misconceptions of aggressive psychosis. But Hollywood occasionally gets it right, and actors and actresses in the last few decades have shown a willingness to let their performances reflect growing public awareness in regards to mental health. The stigma is lifting, and with its absence, genuine depictions are showcased. Here are 10 movie…

Ask Amy: Husband’s snide statements bewilder spouse – Entertainment – Ocala.com
DEAR AMY: My husband and I have been married for 11 years. Throughout the duration of our marriage, he constantly makes snide remarks, such as, “Someone around here never wants to be responsible for her choices,” or he will remark on how I am such a social butterfly that I know each person’s name on our street, and that this is not normal behavior. Honestly, I don’t know what he is referencing with the “personal accountability” remarks, but I find it odd that it isn’t somehow OK to know your neighbors.
