A teenager will admit murdering his mother after she gave him a vacuum cleaner for Christmas then took her favorite younger son to Disney World.
Jacob Remaley, who is now 17, says he will plead guilty to the November 2016 shootings of mother Dana, 46, and that brother – eight year-old Caleb – after he turns 18 in February 2020.
Remaley, of New Stanton in Pennsylvania, revealed plans to admit first-degree murder but mentally-ill as part of a plea hearing discussed in court Tuesday.
He is set to receive two 30 year prison sentences for the crimes, which will run concurrently, TribLive reported.
Remaley, who suffers from multiple personality disorder, turned on his family after being shunned in favor of Caleb.
He picked up his dad’s gun from the top of the family’s fridge and shot Dana as she slept, then walked into Caleb’s bedroom and blasted him to death.
Caleb was taken on a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida, while Remaley was made to stay home by his parents and do chores using the vacuum cleaner Dana had given him for Christmas.
Remaley’s father David, who was at work when the massacre took place, admitted ‘poor judgement’ in the favoritism shown by him and his wife to Caleb.
He told of his anguish at losing his wife and youngest son, but called for Remaley to be tried in a juvenile court to boost his chances of rehabilitation.
Remaley is said to have committed the shootings while under the influence of another personality called ‘Wrath.’
He had three other personalities besides Wrath – a witch, an old man and a little girl, with his illness formally recognized by a doctor hired by his defense team.
Remaley did not speak during Tuesday’s hearing, but his lawyer Wayne McGrew said he’d decided to plead guilty after discussions with his family.
McGrew added: ‘He has severe mental health issues and depression.’
